According to court documents, Marcus Morris Sr. owes the MGM Grand and the Wynn Las Vegas a total of $265K in unpaid casino markers.

After a court rejected bond on Monday, the former forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers—now a free agent and ESPN analyst—is now detained in a Broward County, Florida, jail.  Morris was taken into custody on Sunday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on allegations of casino marker fraud.

Markieff Morris, Morris's twin brother and fellow NBA player, was present to support Morris as he appeared in court in handcuffs, according to TMZ Sports.

Morris' attorneys argued that releasing their client on bond would expedite the debt payment procedure.

Morris would only be freed for extradition to Nevada or if the arrest warrant was revoked because the debt had been settled, the court said, rejecting the motion.

Morris, 35, was in the process of paying the casinos, according to Morris' attorneys.

"Zero Fraud"

According to court documents, the debts—$115K to the MGM Grand and $150K to the Wynn—are the result of gambling sessions that took place in May and June of 2024.  Additionally, they are significantly greater thanwhat Markieff Morris and the player's agent, Yoni Noy, appeared to suggest in separate remarks shared on social media on Sunday.

"The wording is crazy. Damn, for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family,” Markieff Morris wrote on X. “They got y’all really thinking bro did some fraud s–t. They could have came to the crib for all that. When y’all hear the real story on this s–t man. All I can say is lesson learned. Bro will tell y’all tomorrow. This weird s–t gave me a headache. Can’t stop nothin!”

Despite "whatever crap outlets have said," Noy wrote on X that there was "zero fraud" in this case.

“Apparently, if you have over $1,200, they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!” he added.

A fight in a nightclub

Morris has previously been afoul of the law.  Morris and another man were charged with violence on February 26, 2012, after they allegedly hit an employee during a night out at The Cave, a nightclub in Lawrence, Kansas.

Both guys signed a diversion agreement to settle the dispute.  Morris agreed to stay away from the victim and The Cave for a year in exchange for paying $360 in total fees.
