A politically linked investor was arrested in Nantucket, Mass. on Friday related to a $1.5 million bad check he reportedly gave to a Las Vegas casino.
According to the Nantucket Current, the capture of Daniel Burrell, a previous senior advisor to former US Secretary of State and ex-US Senator John Kerry (D), occurred solely a day after Burrell's estate was auctioned off due to foreclosure.
This is the most recent in a series of legal issues for Yale-educated Burrell, who was part of the Clinton administration as a member of its Domestic Policy Council from 2000 to 2001.
In November of last year, First Western Bank filed a lawsuit against Burrell for supposedly failing to repay $56 million in loans. In April 2024, the Alpine Bank initiated legal proceedings, claiming he was responsible for $18 million on an $18.5 million loan. The second lawsuit aimed to foreclose another of Burrell’s estates, specifically one located in Aspen, Colo., enabling the bank to obtain the property for $24.6 million.
According to the Current, a significant portion of the funds borrowed from the banks was spent on divorce settlements, acquiring a yacht, and purchasing luxury residences.
In May, Burrell did not show up for a court hearing concerning a different lawsuit filed by Equilibrium Multi Strategy Fund. The lawsuit alleged that Burrell was indebted to the fund for $8.8 million through two different companies he manages. Due to the no-show, an arrest warrant was issued but was later revoked in the summer for reasons that are still unknown.
In July, Burrell once more did not show up in court to face a shoplifting accusation, leading to the issuance of another arrest warrant. That case was dismissed earlier this month, but it remains unclear why as the court documents are sealed.
Burrell established the Burrell Group, an investment management firm concentrating on technology, education, natural resources, real estate, insurance, and healthcare industries. He is the past CEO of Rosemont Realty, a commercial real estate company in New Mexico that managed 173 office properties across 25 states. The company was linked to Hunter Biden, who was a member of the advisory board.
In 2022, Rosemont hit the news when it was revealed that the firm had obtained a $100 million cash influx in 2014 from Russian billionaire Elena Baturina.
Burrell's debt to the unidentified casino has been referred to the Las Vegas Justice Court and is set to be heard on either Monday or Tuesday, as stated by his attorney. According to the Current, Burrell could not promptly pay the $10K bail imposed by the judge in Nantucket and was detained overnight at the Nantucket Police Department.

It might also consider using other channels to spread the word about how to win at casinos. Current customers may also be rewarded with seasonal sales incentives. These kinds of promotions can boost client loyalty, but make sure to read the guidelines before participating in any promotional activity.
