The $167 million Powerball prize winner, who was detained last year for allegedly kicking a police officer in the face during a hotel altercation, is under suspicion once more for reportedly stealing $12,000 before taking off in his Porsche.

Since his "life-changing" fortune in April 2025, James Farthing, 51, of Georgetown, Kentucky, has been incarcerated three times; but, in his case, "life-changing" hasn't quite meant going straight.

According to NBC station LEX 18, the 51-year-old was taken into custody on Saturday on suspicion of second-degree burglary and possession of marijuana.

According to an arrest warrant issued by the Lexington Police Department, Farthing was captured on camera entering a city residence. The claimed victim reported to the police that they heard what sounded like a door being kicked in and that Farthing stole $12,000 in cash before driving off in a black Porsche SUV.

He was eventually apprehended after police located him in the parking lot of The Red Mile racetrack. Additionally, police said they discovered marijuana in his car.

"Poor Choices"

On April 27, 2025, Farthing and his mother, Linda Grizzle, divided the Powerball prize. At the time, he admitted to reporters that he had given her "a lot of stress."

“I’ve made some bad decisions in life and, you know, God’s been good because I’ve kept my faith and done right,” he said.

He got into a brawl at the Island Grand Hotel, which is a part of the TradeWinds Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida, twenty-four hours later. Farthing "kicked in the cheek" a policeman who was trying to step in, fought being taken into custody, and attempted to run away before being Tasered.

He was sentenced to time served (nine days) and a $1,000 fine after entering a guilty plea on February 27 to misdemeanor charges of battery and resisting an officer without violence in connection with that incident.

Wave of One-Man Crimeled

In February, he was also accused of intimidating a witness in court after officers arrived at a Lexington home where a woman claimed she had been coerced into eating a gummy and threatened with a gun. On that charge, he is schedu to appear in court in April.

In addition, he has an unresolved hit-and-run allegation from a collision in Fayette County in November 2025 in which he allegedly fled the scene on foot after rear-ending another car.

Theft, drug smuggling, organized crime, domestic abuse, strangulation, tampering with tangible evidence, and escape from a prison are just a few of Farthing's many criminal offenses.
